When Art Imitates Life

art-mirrors-life_001

Today I was wandering around SL with a little extra time on my hands and decided to go check out some photo studios.  I like the do it yourself photostudio, but they are ephemeral….like pop up restaurants…one day their there, the next day their gone.  I like them because they offer opportunities to play with Windlight settings while allowing lots of poses…some old and hideous, some new and fun.  I happened upon this little gem, Pixel Arts which is a rez platform.  There aren’t may backdrops, but unlike the usual hop on a pose stand and change the background shop, this is an interactive backdrop with a number of scene changes and activities in each.

Here I am hanging out at the chicken coop.  Sure, there were prettier backgrounds, and even more poses here with hay bales, horses, fences and wagon wheels.  I chose the less traditional coop.  Where I live, almost all of my neighbors have chickens.  We have a chick sale at the local Agway in the early spring.  Each morning, if you’re up around 5 you can hear the roosters chatting away across back yards at the top of their lungs.  I even once had to call work to tell them that I would be late because my neighbors’ chickens were loose.  Sounds like a fairly lame excuse, but those little bastards would NOT get out of the road.

So here is a portrait in SL that imitates my RL…sort of the opposite of what we are all trying to achieve and yet…perfectly simple 🙂

A trip to Echoes in the Garden

So…adventure one on my new year of exploration and inspiration was a scroll through the destination guide for “Art” where I found an interactive installation called Echoes in the Garden by Rose Borchovski.  The description says it’s based on the Susa Bubble story…but despite googling, I couldn’t find much on a Susa Bubble except a soccer bubble in Lindenhurst NY.  That being said…it was a cool sort of place..:)

There are boxes that move, follow, extend and link up to lead you up the installation.  There are yellow tears that are pose balls that you can stand on as you go up.  Boxes unfold, there are pigs on boxes, pigs in boxes, pigs dancing on boxes…..There are also eyes in boxes, bodies with big blue eyes poking out of them and disembodied heads growing up out of boxes.

There’s a spot where you reach while climbing that you get a folder with a spotted umbrella, cigarette, some floating words and butterflies to attach.  I attached all the appropriate items and took some fun pictures in the field of daisies that magically appeared and then up on top in the rain with the dancing pigs.

This is exactly the sort of place that I love most in SL….it’s whimsical, thoughtful and there is poetry and beauty in a spare but interesting space.  You don’t need hours to explore it, but you can enjoy a moment in a place that bears no resemblance at all to reality.  I took some pictures that I posted on my flickr and  now I have a whole new way to envision pigs flying 🙂

2017: It’s a new year!

31351735181_b6ae641287_o2017. thank heavens you finally showed up!  Last year was a tough one in RL.  The universe took some amazing inspirational musicians and actors from us.  The universe took my mother in law.  My worklife is undergoing a massive renovation due to changes at the University.  SL was a constant escape, dance, dance, dance, with lovely friends helping to make RL a noise in the background.  2017 is starting out with knee surgery for me…that’s what I get for running…I guess I’m not as young as I used to be…

In 2017 I have a couple of goals in SL.  One is to own a half sim.  A big space, but to just landscape and decorate as I like and open it up to people to visit.  I figure a sim is really just a huge set, so let’s see how that goes.  I also want to expand my dancing skill further.  I can’t tell you how much fun I have dancing and watching dance.  I find it amazing and fresh…even after all this time, I simply enjoy the imagination of the dancers in SL.  Third, I’m going to do my best to explore someplace new on a regular basis and write about it.  Sure….I’ll probably be the last person on the grid to find it…but there are so many amazing sims….I want to share them, especially with my dance friends because sometimes we just get too wrapped up in making sets and dances and forget all the amazing imaginations doing other things in SL.  Inspiration…there’s a word…and reflection…another lovely word…and whimsy…my favorite word of all.  I want to get out there and see all of it.

So there you have it…my first post in a long time, but I’m hoping to have more to come from some amazing places in SL.  Happy New Year to you all and let’s hope for a happy and healthy one all around 🙂

The holidays are coming!!

The first holiday show of the season at Winds 🙂

The Winds of the Sahara Cabaret

And…in a flurry of flurries….the cast and crew of the Winds of the Sahara Cabaret were back from their hiatus for the month of November and we were sooooo happy to be back and more than that, ecstatic to see all of your smiling faces out in the audience waiting to see what we might have in store for you. Queenie went wild with the wonderful holiday decorations and Shanny was a vision in her holiday green dress, looking as stunning as she always does, greeting everyone and making sure that we all were behaving politely backstage.

Jo opened for us with “December Night” by Michael Buble.  A funtastic winter song that was set to a great winter scene.  Seb was out making a snowman, Jo wandered out of her house and they were having a grand old time dancing when Maia and Ayita the snowmen got up from their…
